Does anybody know Black ballet dancers?
Outside Lady Dunham Aesha Ash or Kitty Phetla?
Hi there – I am a black dancer. I am fully trained in ballet on pointe, but tap / jazz / modern is my forte. I think it's a question so neat. Since the pioneering (as Katherine Dunham and Alvin Ailey), have pushed back the walls of segregation you can not help noting that their efforts are amazing ….. but today we still do not see many of our faces outside the body. At many shows I've seen, they have a ballerina chip at all, but all the dancers in principle have been white. When I was young, that always bothered me. And I always disturbed that while taking ballet, I was constantly reminded to "tuck" my ass. (Let me tell you, there is only so much I can Tuck! – I'm 5'7, 115 with a dancer's build, just a little junk in my trunk – lol) Some say it has to do with racism, some say that the talent, some say that the body type, and others say that lack of opportunities for young black ….. Some pioneers of black dance: – Janet Collins – Katherine Dunham – dancer Raven Wilkinson Some cassis: – Aesha Ash (NYCB) – Tai Jimenez (Dance Theater of Harlem) – Misty Copeland (Boston Ballet) – Lauren Anderson (Houston Ballet) – Alicia Graf (Alvin Ailey with) – Cleopatra Williams (the only dancer black body) Here are some great articles about: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article http://www.nytimes.com/ 2007/05/06/arts/dance/06kour.html? _r = 2 & oref = slogin & oref = slogin. cgi? f = / c/a/2007/01/28/PKGBJNNODI1.DTL & type = performance http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1083/is_6_79/ai_n14814035 Hope it helps!

Save the Last Dance $8.97 Save the Last Dance enjoyed a profitable release in early 2001, with box-office earnings that exceeded anyone’s expectations. Its performance illustrates the staying power of a formulaic movie that avoids the pitfalls and clichés that would otherwise render it forgettable. Since there’s nothing new here, you’ll appreciate the original quirks in a character-based plot that’s just around the corner… |
