The film was not originally a musical, but a legendary songwriter Sir Elton John wrote the music that have brought to stage. This is not the first composition of John's for the stage. He also wrote the music for the King Leo, Aida and Lestat. Lee Hall wrote the libretto and lyrics with the original script. Hall has written other pieces as Spoonface Steinberg and Cooking with Elvis.
Billy Elliot had been operating successfully in England and Australia before coming to Broadway. Billy is played by three actors rotating, David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish. Alvarez has been in dance productions with the American Ballet Theater, as in Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker. Kowalik has been studying dance since age 3. He won the World Championship of Irish Dancing at 11, making him the youngest American male to do so. He played as Billy, with the troupe in London. Kulish is from San Diego, California and has won ballet and ballroom dance competitions and performed with the American Ballet Theater.
The show has won several awards for four Laurence Olivier Awards. The music will keep you captivated with songs like "Born to Boogie," "Express Yourself" and "It could be a star."
